abstract

Ganna Vasylivna Zakrevska (1894–1974) was a researcher of the Quaternary large mammals of Ukraine and of the geological structure, geomorphology, tectonics, and mineral resources of various regions of the country, primarily its northern part. Throughout her entire scientific career, until her emigration to Canada, she worked at the Institute of Geological Sciences (Kyiv), progressing from a postgraduate researcher to the director of the Institute. Ganna Vasylivna successfully combined research work with teaching: she delivered a course in physical geography at the Kyiv Pedagogical Institute and a course in field geology at the Kyiv Mining and Geological Institute. The theriological research of Ganna Vasylivna focused on the study of Quaternary wild boars, bison, and deer. A special place in her scientific work is devoted to the investigation of the skeleton of Mammuthus trogontherii Pohlig, 1855.
