Igor Skilsky is a well-known Bukovynian zoologist, ornithologist, conservationist, and museologist. He graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Chernivtsi University and since 1989 has worked at the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore. He started his scientific career as an ornithologist, defending his PhD thesis in 2000. Later, the scope of his scientific interests expanded significantly and currently he focuses on studying the fauna of the Carpathian region. I. Skilsky is the author and co-author of more than 1200 scientific papers, many of them on theriological topics. He participated as an expert in the creation of protected areas, in particular a few national nature parks. An important area of I. Skilsky’s activity is editorial work—he contributed (as an editor or an editorial board member) to the appearance of many publications, including the ornithological journal Berkut, dozens of books and collections of articles, conference materials, etc. |
