abstract

Igor Skilsky is a well-known Bukovynian zoologist, ornithologist, conservationist, and museologist. Graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Chernivtsi University. Since 1989, he has been working at the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore. He started in science as an ornithologist (he defended his PhD thesis in 2000). Over time, the scope of his scientific interests expanded significantly: he studies the fauna of the Carpathian region now. The researcher is author and co-author more than 1200 scientific papers, many of them on theriological topics. He participated as an expert in the creation of nature protected areas, in particular, few national natural parks. An important area of activity of I. Skilsky is editorial work - he took part (as an editor or a member of editorial boards) in the appearance of many publications (the ornithological journal «Berkut», dozens of books and collections of articles, conference materials, etc.).
