abstract

A review of key works on the mammalian fauna and other studies of mammals in the Middle Dnipro region. The total number of available specialist-level publications can be estimated at 500–700, and these include both faunistic and ecological studies, as well as research on economic significance and ecophysiology. Four groups of sources are considered: (1) foundational works on fauna, including works from the early 20th century and contemporary bibliographic reviews; (2) studies in the fields of faunistics and the biology of certain groups of mammals; (3) materials from regional conferences, which were either all-Ukrainian or international; and (4) studies of the current status and changes in the mammalian fauna, including ‘Red List’ and alien species, and historical changes in the region’s mammalian fauna.
